Types of Baby Bottles
Different Types of Baby Bottles
The world of the baby bottle can be very overwhelming to new parents. If the baby is to be bottle fed for some
or all of the time, the decision on what bottles to purchase is even more important. A trip down the baby isle
shows that there are literally so many choices to choose from. So how does a parent choose a bottle for their new
infant
This article gives a brief overview of several common types of bottles that will help the new parents choose
their bottles wisely. The most important thing to watch out for in a bottle is to make sure that they are all BPA
free for health reasons.
Traditional plastic baby
bottle
Traditional plastic bottles are the kind of bottle that everyone things of
when they think of a baby bottle. They have a straight bottle, with a rubber nipple attached to the end. Usually
this kind of bottle is the least expensive. The main advantage to this kind of bottle is the price. However, it
is important to watch out to only purchase BPA free bottles. BPA free bottles do not contain the harmful
chemical BPA that can cause serious health issues for the baby. The BPA leeches into the milk and is essentially
causing your baby to eat plastic.
Traditional glass baby
bottles
Because of the fear of the BPA in plastic bottles, many parents are turning
to glass bottles. The glass bottles are popular because they do not have
the risk of BPA, and they are easy to clean. The glass bottles are usually shorter and squattier than the plastic
bottles. The disadvantage to this kind of bottle is that they are more expensive, and the risk of the bottles
breaking is higher than for plastic bottles.
Lined babies bottle
Lined bottles are the bottles that are more of a “shell” with disposable
plastic inserts that hold the milk. Usually this kind of bottle is also BPA free. This kind of bottle is very
popular among busy parents because the bottles do not have to be sterilized, and the main part of the bottle does
not have to be washed as often. The expense of the plastic inserts can be expensive in the long run.
Vented baby bottles
Vented bottles come with a bottom that has holes in it. There is a plastic
insert that goes over the holes to keep the bottle from leaking. This kind of bottle is usually bent in the middle
at an angle. This kind of bottle is supposed to eliminate some of the air that gets into the milk in traditional
bottles. If purchasing this kind of bottle just make sure that the plastic is BPA free.
“Natural” baby bottles
“Natural” bottles come with a nipple on the end that is supposed to best
simulate the nipple of an actual breast. This type of bottle is best for babies that are usually breast fed, but
occasionally need to be fed out of a bottle. There are nipples with three different sizes of openings that the baby
uses for each stage of bottle feeding. These bottles can be plastic or glass. Again, just search for BPA free
bottles.
